Personal Statement
For over 25 years, I worked as a geoscientist and manager in Canada’s energy industry. As I wrapped up my wonderful energy career, I made the decision to run for APEGA Council. It was an opportunity to give back to my profession and a choice that has proven to be one of my most rewarding experiences. The learning curve was steep, but over the past two and half years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to APEGA Council and various committees, including the Policy and Standards Committee (both as a member and chair), the Strategy and Risk Committee, the Donations Task Force, and the RCEO Recruitment Task Force.
Reflecting on my 2022 statement, I concluded with: “…And now it is time to give back to my community and work with APEGA and engineers and geoscientists to uphold the integrity of our industry and profession as we move forward, adapt, and thrive.” As we move into 2025, my commitment to these values remains steadfast. I am eager to continue my work with APEGA to maintain the integrity of Alberta’s industries and the professions of engineering and geoscience.

What does self-regulation mean to you as a member of APEGA?
Self-regulation of our professions is an honour and a responsibility granted to us by the Government of Alberta. It means we take responsibility for our work and actions and, when needed, the work of others. Self-regulation means we hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards.
What would you bring to Council?
I have almost three years on APEGA Council. I am a member and chair of the Policy and Standard Committee. As the regulator of engineering and geoscience, what challenges does APEGA face?
APEGA’s mission is to safeguard the public welfare of Albertans by proactively regulating the practices of engineering and geoscience. This is a significant responsibility. In our ever-changing (technology, policy, regulation) world, APEGA’s challenges are to maintain the ethics and integrity of the engineering and geoscience professions while evolving to meet the needs of our stakeholders (the Government of Alberta and the public), APEGA members, and permit holders.
What is the value of a professional licence with APEGA?
Our professional licence is priceless! It provides assurance to the public, our employer, and our coworkers that we are operating at the highest ethical, technical, and safety standards. It allows each of us to practise our I bring professions.
