Protecting the Public During Preliminary Investigations
The APEGA Investigative Committee is mandated by Section 43 of the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act to investigate complaints of unprofessional conduct and unskilled practice against APEGA registrants and permit holders. During these investigations, the Investigative Committee may determine the need to protect the public during the course of the investigation by restricting or suspending the practice of the subject of the investigation until a decision can be reached.
This page lists the active voluntary undertakings and interim suspensions. These are in place while the named registrant or permit holder is under investigation or pending a decision of the Discipline Committee.
Voluntary Undertakings & Interim (Temporary) Suspensions
Voluntary Undertakings are restrictions to the scope of practice of a professional member, licensee, permit holder, certificate holder, or member-in-training while the investigation is under way. They are mutually agreed-upon by the Investigative Committee and the subject of the investigation.
Interim Suspensions are a temporary suspension of a registrant or permit holder registration imposed by the Investigative Committee during the course of an investigation. Section 55(1) of the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act provides authority for APEGA’s Investigative Committee to suspend the registration of a professional
member, licensee, permit holder, certificate holder, or member-in-training pending a preliminary investigation or a decision of the Discipline Committee. This is an extraordinary measure taken by the Investigative Committee to protect the public when warranted by the circumstances of the case.
