Personal Statement
My career as an engineer has taken me on many incredible journeys. I have worked in both the energy and construction industries, first as a process safety engineer and now as an automation and controls engineer. It has been a privilege to live and work in northern Albertan communities, including Peace River, Fort McMurray, and Grande Prairie. I have worked as an employee for small and large corporations, operated a consulting practice, owned a small tree nursery and hobby farm, and I am a key partner who has built a multidisciplinary engineering firm with more than 100 staff members and six locations across Canada. I have worked as a volunteer, supporting APEGA as a branch executive for more than 10 years. Currently, I chair the Public Advisory Committee for Engineering Program at the Northwestern Polytechnic and I am a board member of the Nitehawk Alpine Ski Team. As an elected APEGA Council member, I will serve with honesty and integrity. I will be a bold contributor of my valuable and unique perspective. In this service, I hope to gain a broader perspective on issues and concerns that challenge the future of self-regulation. Thank you for your consideration and participation in the upcoming council election.

Get to Know the Candidate in Four Questions
What does self-regulation mean to you as a member of APEGA?
Self-regulation allows the members of APEGA to have governance over themselves and their profession. It is achieved through a group of elected member representatives working together to make thoughtful decisions on behalf of the public and the members they represent.
What would you bring to Council?
As a council representative, I will bring the unique perspective as both a rural Northern Albertan and an engineering firm entrepreneur with more than 100 personnel. I have been an active volunteer with both APEGA’s Peace Region Branch as an executive and Northwestern Polytechnics Engineering Public Advisory Committee for over 15 years.
As the regulator of engineering and geoscience, what challenges does APEGA face?
APEGA faces challenges with ensuring value in its own processes and reducing unnecessary costs and complexities where possible, remaining impartial in politics and preventing the misuse of the organization to promote social agendas, accreditation of international candidates, managing the use of artificial intelligence, maintaining the integrity of the profession by preventing improper use of designations, and ensuring works are reviewed, authenticated, and permitted by authorized individuals.
What is the value of a professional licence with APEGA?
An APEGA professional licence is the opportunity and the privilege to complete compensated work while upholding the duty to protect the public.
