Citizenship or Permanent Residency for Licensee & Professional Members
Applicants who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents can apply for Professional Membership. If they are neither a Canadian Citizenship nor a Permanent Resident but still wish to independently practise engineering or geoscience in Alberta will need to apply for Licensee.

- Canadian passport
- Permanent resident card
Unacceptable Forms of Documentation
- Work visa
- Unvalidated immigration documents
- Driver's licence
- Commemorative certificates
- Expired Canadian Passport
- Expired Permanent Resident Card

If an applicant has applied as a Licensee and the obtain their Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency, please email [email protected] with valid documentation and APEGA staff will change the application type to Professional Member.
Document Submission Guidelines
During the online application process, applicants will need to upload scanned copies of their documents in Step 2 - Additional Information. If the documentation is unreadable or missing information, applicants will be contacted to submit a new copy. If an applicant’s documentation is within 6 months of expiring, APEGA may need the applicant to submit additional valid proof of status. Please email any questions or concerns to [email protected].
Canadian Birth Certificate
All copies must be clear and readable so that your name, date of birth, and registration number are visible.
Both sides of the document are required.
Canadian Citizenship Card or Certificate
All copies must be clear and readable so that your name, date of birth, certificate number, unique client identifier, and citizenship date are visible.
Both sides of the document are required.
Canadian Passport
All copies must be clear and readable so that your name, date of birth, and passport number are visible.
Your passport must be valid. Expired or cancelled passports will not be accepted.
Permanent Resident Card
All copies must be clear and readable so that your name, date of birth, ID number, nationality, and expiry date are visible.
Both sides of the document are required.
Your permanent resident card must be valid. Expired permanent resident cards will not be accepted
