1969: Richard H. Swann, P.Eng.

Born in Winnipeg, Richard Swann graduated with a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from the University of California in 1944.

Swann worked in various engineering positions with the California Standard Company from 1944-50. He joined Western Leaseholds Ltd. in 1950 and eventually became operations manager with the company when it was re-named Canadian Fina Oil Ltd.

He became a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta (which became The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta in 1969 just before he became president) in 1948 and served on the discipline committee and act and bylaws committee. Swann served as a member of council from 1963-67. He was vice-president (1968-69) and president (1969-70). He was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 1970.

Swann was president of Cygnet Development Ltd. for many years before retiring and living in Priddis, Alta. He passed away in January 2004.
