Do you have questions about changes to APEGA's CPD Program?

A green question mark on a dark blue background

As a result of the pandemic, APEGA Council has granted APEGA members Special Consideration for COVID-19 for the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program. This means your professional development requirement will be lowered to 30 hours and one category (from 80 hours and three categories) in a single reporting period occurring between May 1, 2019, and March 31, 2021.

Common CPD Questions

What is my reporting period?

Your CPD reporting period is the 12 months leading up to the date of your annual membership renewal. For example, if your membership renewal date is May 31, 2020, your reporting period is June 1, 2019, to May 31, 2020. You can also find your reporting period in the Member Self-Service Centre.

Which reporting period qualifies for Special Consideration for COVID-19?

The reporting period that qualifies for special consideration depends on the month and year of your membership start date. Special Consideration for COVID-19 is granted for the following reporting periods:

  • May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020
  • June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020
  • July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020
  • August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020
  • September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020
  • October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020
  • November 1, 2019 to October 31, 2020
  • December 1, 2019 to November 30, 2020
  • January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020
  • February 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021
  • March 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021
  • April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021

You should have received an email from APEGA on June 4, 2020, announcing the Special Consideration for COVID-19. This email will let you know whether Special Consideration for COVID-19 is being granted for your 2019-2020, 2020, or 2021 reporting period.

What CPD requirements must I meet during my applicable period of Special Consideration for COVID-19?

During the reporting period for Special Consideration for COVID-19, the minimum CPD requirement is lowered to 30 hours and one category. Please log in to the Member Self-Service Centre and update your CPD hours accordingly.

If you have already logged more hours than necessary during that time, we recommend you update your claim to meet the minimum requirement and bank the remaining hours for your next reporting period.

I have been told to review and update my CPD hours as soon as possible. Where do I find the line for my 2020 reporting?

The 2020 reporting line will be available in the Member Self-Service Centre (MSSC) 30 days before the end of your reporting period. For example, if your reporting period ends September 1, 2020, you can enter your 2019-2020 CPD summary hours on August 1, 2020. The deadline to review and update your CPD hours in the MSSC is August 31, 2020.

With Special Consideration for COVID-19, what is the total number of CPD hours and categories required to remain compliant over the three-year term?

With Special Consideration for COVID-19, your CPD annual requirement is lowered to 30 professional development hours and one category. Assuming only one of the last three reporting periods is under Special Consideration, the three-year minimum total of CPD hours is 190, with at least three categories reported within the regular periods and only one reported during the Special Consideration for COVID-19 period.

I am not currently practising and I have received an email from APEGA to review and update my CPD hours. Do I need to report CPD hours while non-practising?

You do not need to report CPD hours for any reporting period during which your status is listed as non-practising.

I am unable to meet the minimum CPD requirements and would like to request Special Consideration for a reporting period listed above. Do I need to submit a form?

If you are requesting Special Consideration for a reporting period listed above, you do not need to submit a Special Consideration form. However, you still need to log in to the Member Self-Service Centre and update your CPD hours. APEGA Council has already applied this consideration to your account as part of the Special Consideration for COVID-19 initiative.

I am unable to meet the minimum CPD requirements and would like to request Special Consideration for a reporting period that is not listed above. Do I need to submit a form?

If you are requesting Special Consideration for a reporting period not listed above, you must update your CPD hours and then submit a Special Consideration form. You will be notified once your request is reviewed by the Practice Review Board.

I have been advised to carry extra CPD hours over to the next year, but they expire soon. Will I lose them?

APEGA recommends you report the CPD hours that expire first and carry over your more recent hours. If your hours expire and you cannot make them up in future reporting periods, we recommend you apply for Special Consideration.

To apply for Special Consideration, you must update your CPD report to include all relevant hours and submit a Special Consideration form. APEGA will notify you when your request is reviewed by the Practice Review Board.

APEGA is transitioning to a new reporting system, myAPEGA. Will I lose any hours that I’ve carried over once the transition is complete?

All of the hours you enter into the Member Self-Service Centre now will transition to the new system. In the new system, members will be able to enter their carry over hours where it will then be tracked automatically.
