The chief executive officer of Geoscientists Canada, Andrea Waldie, P.Geo., FGC, has announced she will retire on May 31, 2024, after six years of dedicated service to the geoscience profession. In her departure, she leaves a legacy of unwavering commitment and exceptional service.

“Ms. Waldie is leaving an indelible mark on the geoscience profession across the country,” said Jay Nagendran, P.Eng., APEGA’s registrar and chief executive officer. “We have valued her insights, and I have personally enjoyed the opportunity to work with her, witnessing the positive influence she brings to our shared objectives.”

APEGA and Geoscientists Canada have long fostered a close partnership, working together to address industry challenges, promote regulatory standards, and advance the profession as a whole. This collaboration is particularly valuable as APEGA registrants account for almost half of all geoscientists in Canada.

Along with work as a professional consultant, Waldie’s robust résumé includes more than 20 years spent as an exploration geologist and almost six years as the executive director and registrar of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (now Professional Geoscientists Ontario). She currently serves as a director of the APGO Education Foundation, as the treasurer of the Global Geoscience Professionalism Group, and as a director of the Canada IGC 2028 Foundation.

“As Ms. Waldie embarks on her well-deserved retirement, we extend our sincere appreciation for her contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” added Nagendran.
