Professional Engineers and Geoscientists partner with CCSD to enhance science and math education
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and The Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) have signed a memorandum of agreement in Calgary to enhance science and math education in Calgary catholic schools.
“By working with CCSD, we combine resources and experience to provide educators and students with what they need to succeed. This partnership strengthens our ability to inspire youth and engage them in science and math,” says APEGA President Colin Yeo, P.Geo., FGC, FEC (Hon.).
“APEGA and CCSD have a long history of working together, and it’s wonderful to see that collaboration continue. In keeping with our province’s vision of Inspiring Education, we need to ensure children learn skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, innovation and creativity to prepare them for success. This new partnership with APEGA will allow our district to establish educational supports and resources that will further promote knowledge and interest in math and science and related careers,” says CCSD Chief Superintendent Gary Strother.
The collaboration, formalized last Wednesday, will allow the two parties to share resources to help educators across all grade levels provide quality instruction to their students. APEGA outreach staff will go into classrooms with interactive presentations related to professional engineering and geoscience. This agreement will help ensure students in the Calgary Catholic School Division study and enjoy science and math and become aware of the options for careers in related fields.
