About the presenter

After studying at Keyano College and graduating from the University of Alberta with a mining engineering degree, Andrew Rosser joined Syncrude in 1998. For the next 10 years, he served in a variety of positions, including leadership roles with operations, maintenance, technical, and business development before moving onto Shell Albian Sands to support the Jackpine Mine Expansion.

His most recent position with Shell was senior lead of its Mars Corridor, a set of offshore oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. His experience includes the roles of vice-president HSE and social performance and vice-president sustainable development and regulatory for Shell Heavy Oil in Canada, before his last two international assignments leading offshore oil and gas businesses.

Andrew rejoined Syncrude in 2021 as senior vice-president, where he oversees the effective management and stewardship of the Syncrude asset, which is supported by about 4,000 employees with production capacity of 350,000 barrels per day.

In addition to his mining degree, Andrew holds an MBA from the University of Alberta. He serves as a public board member on the Local HERO Foundation in Fort McMurray, on the board of governors for Keyano College, as a chair of the Mining Industry Advisory Council for the University of Alberta’s School of Mining, and as a Business Advisory Council member for the University of Alberta’s School of Business.
