Webinar | From Napkin Sketch to Commercial Success - An Overview of the New Technology and Product Development Journey

25 Feb 2025
Register by February 24, 2025

Designing and engineering new technologies and new products is not easy. Even more challenging is doing so in a way that also leads to commercial success. Using case studies from medical devices from cleantech to agtech, this session will provide an overview of different strategies used to mature both technology development and product development. Furthermore, we will also highlight the non-engineering considerations needed (that can be easily overlooked) for products to be successful. This includes an overview of industrial design and human factors, management of the product regulatory/certification pathway, intellectual property management, product management/product-market fit, and design for manufacturing/scaling strategies from product launch to high-volume manufacturing.

Learning objectives

  • key engineering strategies to consider when developing new technologies and new products (illustrated with case studies)
  • an understanding of prototyping strategies (from proof-of-concept prototypes to first article production parts) and what do you build, when, and how many?
  • an understanding of the depth and skills needed on your team to create products that have a big and sustainable impact in the marketplace
  • strategies for creating a competitive advantage (e.g., patent strategy, trade secrets, speed-to-market)

This session will be held through ON24.

He has been involved in product development and engineering in the industrial, process, and medical device industries and
has managed numerous projects from initial design through to production. He holds an undergraduate degree from Queen's University in mechanical engineering and a master of engineering science in biomedical engineering from the University of New South Wales. Josh uses his product development and engineering experience to provide product strategy planning, project management, and technical leadership to our projects.
