Webinar | Major Engineering Projects: Current Practices, Challenges, and Game Changers

20 Feb 2025
Register by February 19, 2025

The level of uncertainty and volatility associated with engineering and construction projects make a predictable outcome almost impossible to achieve, as these projects are complex, large, and long in duration. The long history of staggering cost overruns and delays in the completion of these projects offers little assurance that the cost estimates and schedules presented to project executives, including CEOs, Boards of Directors, Government Ministers, and City Councils, can be relied upon.

This short presentation is developed for APEGA members and professionals who are involved directly or indirectly in the planning, engineering, and construction of capital projects or act as project executives, directors, and managers.

The presentation will provide a quick analysis of current industry practices and list some value-improving practices to enhance the delivery of these highly complex projects and increase their predictability. Specifically, the speaker will suggest ways to improve project decision-making, the management of associated risks and contingencies, governance, and assurance/oversight.

Learning Objective

Attendees will have a better appreciation of the challenges facing the delivery of major capital projects and what can be done differently. Specifically, improve our understating of the:

  • reasons for lack of predictability on projects
  • lessons learned but repeated
  • ideas for better project delivery

This session will be held through ON24.
