Webinar | Same-Day Pipe Renovation— Is It Possible?

08 May 2025
Register by May 7, 2025

Aging water and sewer force mains are failing and traditional renovation methods like full cut replacement and CIPP liners are costly, time-consuming, and disruptive.

Recent advancements in spray-in-place-pipe (SIPP) technology offer a faster, more efficient solution for renovating pressure pipelines. SIPP technology can be used to renovate 150 mm (6 in.) to 1070 mm (42 in.) potable water and wastewater force mains using resins that cure in minutes, not days. This allows for faster same-day return to service and reduces or eliminates the need for expensive temporary bypass systems. SIPP also does not require pre-lining or host pipe measurements and is versatile for a variety materials including steel, cast iron, ductile iron, and asbestos cement.

This presentation will cover key developments in SIPP lining materials, technology, and applications. The presentation will also cover the six step SIPP lining process; problems that SIPP can fix; Resiline 320 and 330 product technical envelope; design standards, quality assurance, and quality control; AWWA Class I, II, III, and IV liner design; and SIPP case studies.

Brought to you by the Lethbridge Branch. Everyone is welcome to attend.

About the Presenter

For the past 27 years, Dr. Mark Knight has served as a professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Waterloo, located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Knight has dedicated his professional career to advancing trenchless pipe construction, renovation, condition assessment, and asset management research. Additionally, he has conducted third-party evaluations of water pipe renovation products, such as CIPP pressure, gravity pipe liners, and SIPP pressure pipe materials (Resiline 320, 3M Scotchkote 2400, and Nukote PP300). He also completed third-party evaluations on the effectiveness of different pipe-cleaning methods (Tomahawk abrasive stone, Rack and Bore, and High-Pressure Water).

Dr. Knight is recognized as an industry leader in developing best practice guides and standards for North America. He made notable contributions to the NASTT CIPP Good Practice course and manual and served as chair for the AWWA Watermain Rehabilitation manual M28 4th edition, scheduled for release in late 2025. Furthermore, he chaired the development of the AWWA Standard C623-22 Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) Rehabilitation of Pressurized Potable Water Pipelines with a diameter of 100 mm (4 in.) or larger.

Dr. Knight chairs Canada's ISO Mirror Committee for Pipeline Rehabilitation (ISO/TC 138/SC 8) and actively participates in several AWWA committees, including Pipe Rehabilitation Committee 257, Large Diameter Pipe Manual M81, and C620 and C623 Non-Mandatory Design Appendix. He also wrote a chapter for the AWWA Manual M55 on PE Pipe design and installation. Additionally, he created leading web-based design tools like HDPEapp.COM, PPI PACE.COM, PPIBOREAID.COM, and GTI Weaklinkapp.com.
