APEGA Is Updating the CPD Program
In 2025, APEGA’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program for all licensed professionals will be changing. The new annual CPD requirements will be more relevant to each individual while ensuring the sustainability of the professions into the future.
The revised CPD Program, as outlined in version 2.0 of the Continuing Professional Development practice standard, comes into effect on January 1, 2025, and will be enforceable on January 1, 2026, after a one-year transition period.
The requirements of the revised CPD Program include:
- completing five online learning modules each year; and
- creating and following a Personal Annual Competency Evaluation (PACE) plan.
Review the draft standard and guideline
As part of APEGA’s standards and guidelines development process, all licensed professionals are encouraged to review the drafts of the revised Continuing Professional Development practice standard and the Personal Annual Competency Evaluation practice guideline.
APEGA hosted information sessions through February and March on the upcoming changes to the CPD Program. If you were unable to attend, you can register and watch a recording in the APEGA Professional Development Centre.
Overview of the revised CPD Program requirements, launching in 2025
Each year, licensed professionals will be required to complete five online learning modules. These modules focus on core concepts of the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act and common issues identified from APEGA practice reviews.
Each year, licensed professionals will also be responsible for creating a personalized PACE plan and determining what is required to develop and maintain their own professional competency. This includes identifying and planning professional development activities for the year, tracking progress, and evaluating if goals have been met.
Licensed professionals will be required to maintain written records of their PACE plan and supporting CPD documentation (such as certificates of completion for each learning module), but they will not be required to submit these records to APEGA unless requested by the Practice Review Board.
Regular CPD reporting continues through 2024
Licensed professionals must continue to record their CPD hours in myAPEGA until December 31, 2024. After this date, licensed professionals must maintain their own written records of the activities they undertake to fulfil their CPD obligations.
